You do not need permission to be who you are- Keren Obara
When stereotypes are forced onto you, do not mind that, keep in working towards becoming the best version of yourself💜.
Ever since I joined university. I constantly received micro-messages from most of the people I spoke to. They were not pleased with my personality as it is. They were irritated by the fact that I did not live up to their mental image. In their eyes, I was a nuisance, a failure.
“You’re boring.” someone once told me, due to the fact that I went to British School in elementary and high school. The school emphasised the proper use of the English language. I grew up with that as a personal value.
When I meet people, they expect me to start speaking some alien language that they have never heard. I just want to do what I have to do and keep things simple. But they make things complicated, by getting angry at the fact that I communicate properly. An African shouldn’t be able to communicate. Well I communicate. And so, many are offended.
I usually keep to myself and try not to annoy anybody, but being an INTJ girl that grew up in a high income home in East Africa, my personality is far from what people expect. This annoys them. My existence is simply an annoyance for people who are infatuated with black people’s stereotypes on the media.
When people meet me and have conversations with me, they usually take an effort to make it clear that they are offended by the fact that I do not embody many of the stereotypes pushed within the media.
With nothing to prove, one must love themselves as they are.
I am an Army of the group BTS, they encouraged me to love and speak myself. Therefore, even though people are angry at me for not fulfilling stereotypes, I will continue to smile and try my best everyday.
Love yourself💜 You have done nothing wrong in being yourself 💜
If other people are angry at you for not fulfilling stereotypes, I am happy with you. Keep loving yourself as you are💜
